Now in its 35th year, the Green Room Awards Association (GRAA) is well established as Victoria's peak body for honouring excellence and innovation across the vibrant Arts sector. On the 9th of April, the iconic Comedy Theatre will opens its doors to Melbourne's Arts Industry as they come together to celebrate the achievements of their talented peers at the 2018 Green Room Awards.
As peer-presented Performing Arts Industry awards, the Green Room Awards recognise outstanding achievements in productions from Cabaret, Contemporary and Experimental Performance, Dance, Independent Theatre, Music Theatre, Opera, and Theatre Companies. The awards acknowledge the contributions of the many diverse Artists and Technicians who create work in our local industry.
A jam-packed, electric night with live performances and presentations by valued Partners and Sponsors, the 2018 ceremony sees the inclusion of two exciting new monetary awards. Made possible by sponsor Arup, the Technical Achievement Award will include a $10 000 prize that can be used to assist the recipient in their artistic practices and further professional development. The ever popular Lifetime Achievement Award will also be presented with a $5000 financial prize this year.
"2017 was a remarkable year in the performing arts. The GRAA received hundreds of nominations across all the art forms and this evening is a unique opportunity for the whole sector to come together and celebrate our achievements.", adds GRAA President Hilary Glow.
"The GRAA welcomes two new partnerships this year. One with Creative Victoria and the other with Arup. Arup is a global engineering, design, planning and consulting firm and they are supporting a cash prize for the Technical Achievement award. We're thrilled to have made this connection with Arup, which has a long and distinguished tradition of designing innovative concert halls, theatres, museums, galleries, libraries and archive. This years' awards ceremony will be fabulous celebration of what has been achieved, while also acknowledging some of the huge political shifts we saw in 2017. Particularly around Marriage Equality and the #MeToo movement."
A highlight on the Melbourne Arts calendar, the annual Green Room Awards is a joyous celebration of our local Arts and Artists, not to be missed.
The GRAA is proudly supported by Creative Victoria, City of Melbourne, Marriner Group, Media Super, Arup, and the Media and Entertainment Arts Alliance.
