About The Exhibition

Sergio's passion for colour and the landscape are the culmination of recent travels to remote areas from Broken Hill and the vast outback to the cooler colours of the Snowy Mountains as the the snow line is receding .

He travels to locations in both inland remote areas or australia,s rugged coastline and mountains to sketch and absorb the sense of place absorbing the atmosphere -the colours - the forms - the spirit . Sergio loves to commune with nature. Landscape transformed through spirit and then experimenting with various techniques.

He may start off with gouache- pastel -graphite- mixed media as studies and then move onto larger oil paintings drawing into them with graphite oil stick and branches and other implements even large stiff brooms always with experimentation in mind.

The themes mainly landscape inspired from the broad to the detail and in progress become transformed. The work may become abstract in nature.

About The Artist

Sergio was born in Pola, Italy, in 1946 and migrated to Australia with his family in 1951. Since childhood he was always working with his hands "“ carving, drawing and painting. As a teenager he fell in love with the rugged Victorian coastline defined by wild winds and unpredictable seas. He was captivated by the freedom and energy nature expelled.

After studying and practicing Architecture, Sergio advanced his artistic journey by completing an Art and Design course at Preston Institute of Technology. In 1979, Sergio set a Pottery Studio in Hawthorn, Victoria. His artistic passion continued to evolve taking him from the potter-wheel to the easel. His passion for the sea directed his move to Sydney's Central Coast where he had a studio and gallery for almost twenty years before relocating to Sydney, where he now works.

Sergio's creations stem from the transient moods nature exhibits. He finds nature an endless source of inspiration. His work celebrates these wonders. His creations explore exotic lands where the eye, heart and soul can find tranquility, joy and beauty. It is these moments that Sergio translates via his paint brush. His desire is to present to the world his exhilarations for the beauty of nature. This beauty can present itself in many forms, a dark forest, a rugged coastline, a rushing waterfall, the bark of a tree, or the reflection on a glassy ocean. Sergio's work captures the spirit of these things with energetic brushstrokes and brilliant colour.
