Australian Revelations: Mary and Max 10th Anniversary Screening!
Adam Elliot is nothing less than an Australian living treasure and his work is always one-of-a-kind.
Winning an Oscar for the wonderful Harvey Krumpet, Adam describes his own work as "chonky and wonky", a characteristic that gives his animations such wonderful personality and truth - and Mary and Max is no exception.

Our final Australian Revelations screening for 2019 is the glorious Mary and Max. It's 10th Anniversary screeening, this is a must see film.
Mary, an 8 year-old girl living in 1970's Mount Waverley in Australia. Mary's family is utterly dysfunctional; her father engages in taxidermy as a hobby, and her mother is a sherry drinking, chain smoking thief, and not a very good role model. One day Mary sends a letter to a random person in America. The letter arrives in the mailbox of Max Horovitz, an overweight, middle aged New Yorker who suffers from Asperger's Syndrome. Max, who has panic attacks while reading Mary's letters, becomes her pen-pal, since they are essentially both lonely souls pining for human contact they can appreciate.
Adam's film is just beautiful. With a first class cast including Philip Seymour Hoffman, Eric Bana, Toni Collette, Barry Humphries, Bethany Whitmore, Mary and Max is a rare experience indeed from a very special person.
Adam Elliot will join us post screening for a Q+A.
