AWESOME Arts return to Hedland for their 5th year!
AWESOME Arts has been visiting Hedland Senior High School on the traditional lands of the Kariyarra People with the Creative Challenge Program since 2016!
This year’s Creative Challenge had students exploring movement, dance, theatre and circus skills over the course of 2-weeks with residency artists Sete Tele and Aidan Bayliss. This Creative Challenge was proudly supported by BHP.
To the delight of the young artists, this residency took a play-based approach to workshops exploring dance, movement and circus skills. The artists invited students onto an improvisational Viking boat, introduced them to unicycles developed abstract ways of making art. Participants embraced the opportunity to engage in process-driven experimentation. Additionally, the students of Hedland Senior High School stepped outside of their comfort zone while exploring unexpected and creative performance skills.
Our AWESOME artists structured the workshops around emphasising that making mistakes is an important part of the creative process. Sete and Aidan also talked to the students about their pathways into becoming professional contemporary artists.
The residency was celebrated by making positive affirmations and reflections. Students wrote messages and compliments on photos taken during the residency process.
