Barbara and her band, The Camp Dogs, have been trying to make it in Sydney, but this is a tough town for musicians. In all the relentless demands of city life, the wild and unpredictable Barbara craves a sense of belonging. So, it's time to hit the road with her cousin, René. What follows is part road-story, part family drama, part political cry from the heart, interlaced with original songs that range from punk-inspired explosions of rage, to tender rock and soul ballads full of yearning.
Together with a killer all-female rock band, Ursula Yovich (Top End Wedding, Australia, TV's Redfern Now) once again plays the title role of Barbara and is joined by Black Arm Band's Troy Brady and Elaine Crombie (TV's Redfern Now, Rosehaven and Malthouse's Blaque Showgirls), reprising her Sydney Theatre Award-winning role of René. Barbara and the Camp Dogs is a gob-spit of fun, frenzy and family that finds beauty in honesty and hope in confrontation with the past.
With Troy Brady, Elaine Crombie, Ursula Yovich, and musicians Sorcha Albuquerque, Jessica Dunn and Michelle Vincent, Barbara and the Camp Dogs was written by Ursula Yovich and Alana Valentine, and is a finalist in the 2019 NSW Premier's Literary Awards Nick Enright Award for Playwriting.
