Having answered the cries of her growing fan base with the return season of her hit one-woman show, Becoming Bette, at Brisbane's latest theatre to the independent scene, Room To Play, Elizabeth Scales is now hearing the call of southern fans and is delivering with a two show PRE-fringe treat of Becoming Bette at iconic The Butterfly Club.
"Becoming Bette is such a fun show!" Scales wastes no time in sharing her enthusiasm in playing the solo role of Bette in her original and colourful creation. Having just finished a stellar return season in Brisbane, the demands for Becoming Bette has been coming in from the rivalling cities of the south with both Sydney and Melbourne calling. However, it is Melbourne who will get their first glimpse of this Brisvegas Diva and the self-proclaimed "newest Bette to the family" when she takes to the stage at The Butterfly Club just the weekend prior to fringe madness flying into flamboyant swing in September. "It's so humbling and inspiring at the same time to have so many requests to see Becoming Bette. I was pleasantly surprised. The show is so entertaining and fun yet so heartfelt and truthful. As an artist, it is so satisfying to create a work that is so relatable to the audience. I think that is what works about Bette, the truth in it and the humour."
Becoming Bette was Scales' debut one-woman show, which premiered at the 2015 Mackay Anywhere Festival to a raving crowd. The following season in Brisbane proved just as riotous. A version of the show was adapted following an invitation for Scales to guest perform at the Lonely Nights Cabaret Series. "It's great to see that such a story can be adaptable to suit the many colourful possibilities of the cabaret world. The show is as adaptable as its performer!" Following a warm and certainly well received premiere in 2015, the calls for a return season became so loud that Scales simply had to answer. Hence, the return of Bette to Brisbane at the Room To Play Independent Theatre (Brisbane's latest independent venue nestled in the bustling and trendy inner CBD suburb of Paddington) in August, which proved a necessary staging with sell out audiences, and Scales is keen to bring Becoming Bette south.
"I cannot wait to bring Becoming Bette to Melbourne! It's definitely one that resonates with an audience from all walks of life." This was even proven by the raving fans Bette gained in FIFO workers on its Mackay and Moranbah premiere. "I honestly did not think it would move such a broad audience!"
The Butterfly Club presents Becoming Bette for two shows only, Sat 10th and Sun 11th September.
