Breaking Ground is Country Arts SA's Visual Artist Professional Development Award which annually provides a practising contemporary visual artist from regional South Australia with the opportunity to develop a body of work for exhibition along with a mentorship to further their career.
This year's winner Cindy Durant lives near Penong, SA on the far west coast. Many factors including the environment of where Cindy resides inspire Cindy's work. 'All things small and large can have a place; real, imagined, colour, texture, and history may influence me'.
For this new body of work, Cindy will be exploring / developing new ideas utilising some screen printing techniques along with her current practices. She will work with media including glass, metals, vitreous enamels and more in various forms from small objects through to large pieces. Cindy states 'I look forward to where this year will take me. This award is allowing me time to play in my studio and see what happens.'
