On the underside of toughened glass, in the inverse image of the scratching surface, in the one-note epic of the close-up, in the overlap of plant and building, in the cell or fibre palette of the bio-pigment, in the conversation between forms in space, in the consideration of material as it pings in every direction (loose and ecstatic as greasy vectors), and with the spirit and attention of what is most critical in the alien labour of art making, Milledge's paintings trill like a radiant peel of land, linking as in a long breath different conditions for the continuation of thinking and of living. @The_Commercial_

Marking the culmination of her twelve-month studio at Artspace Sydney which has enabled significant developments in her work, Clare Milledge presents Skara Thynge: Travelling Stock Reserves at The Commercial. The exhibition comprises her most concentrated series of hinterglasmalerei paintings to date and is accompanied by a text commissioned from Dr Astrid Lorange.
Clare Milledge (b. 1977) completed her Doctor of Philosophy at Sydney College of the Arts, the University of Sydney in 2013. Recent group exhibitions include Magic Object "“ 2016 Adelaide Biennial of Australian Art, curated by Lisa Slade (current); Dämmerschlaf, with Nick Dorey and Mikala Dwyer, curated by Alexie Glass-Kantor and Talia Linz, Artspace, Sydney (2016); Neverwhere, curated by Vikki McInnes, an Asialink exhibition at Gaia Gallery, Istanbul (2015). Recent solo exhibitions include Theoretical Regression: A Warm Sheen Against Received Ideas, The Commercial Gallery, Sydney (2014); Altus Duel: Total Environment, Gertrude Contemporary, Melbourne (2014); Anthropocene Circle: Theory Theory, Kalimanrawlins, Melbourne (2013); Motivated Reasoning: Strategic, Tactical, Operational, The Commercial Gallery, Sydney (2013); Maximalist Ritualist (with Carla Cescon) at the Australian Experimental Art Foundation, Adelaide (2012). Milledge has curated several exhibitions including the experimental laboratory, Psychomagic Dead Matters, at 55 Sydenham Rd, Marrickville, Sydney (2014). Milledge was one of seven artists awarded an inaugural Artspace Non-residential Studio at Artspace, Sydney in 2015. Her work is in the collection of Monash University Museum of Art, Melbourne and Ten Cubed, Melbourne.
