The Metropolitan Orchestra will make a triumphant post lockdown return to the stage with Classical Blockbusters, at Riverside Theatres on Saturday 20 November 2021 at 7pm.
Classical Blockbusters celebrates the resumption of live music after a long period of silence caused by the extended lockdowns in Sydney. This exciting Gala event presents an accessible mix of famous and much-loved classical works including musical highlights from major movies.
The program includes pieces by composer John Williams as featured in blockbuster movies Superman and Raiders of the Lost Ark, Elgar’s Nimrod from Enigma Variations which featured in the movie Dunkirk, plus Brahms famous Hungarian Dances, Bizet’s adored Carmen Suite, and selected movements from Tchaikovsky’s legendary Nutcracker Suite. The concert will also spotlight two sparkling soloist works including Sarasate’s flashy Ziguenerweisen for violin, and Mozart’s beautiful second movement from his renowned Clarinet Concerto, all backed by a full orchestra.
