The Coburg Night Market is an experience for the whole family and brings together an evening of tantalising street food from around the world, an array of some of the city's finest artisans and local music acts, providing the perfect backdrop for summer Friday nights in the lead up to Christmas.
Last year saw the market have its biggest season yet, with more than 40,000 people taking in the event across four nights.
This year the market will feature roaming bands Uptown Brown and The Whoopee Project, the engaging and mystifying Cyclo Illuminato, Squeek the Clown and more.
The 2016 season will kick off with unique Melbourne 8-piece Papa Chango hitting the stage, followed by the phenomenally talented and internationally renowned line up that is The Senegambian Jazz Band.
Week two will transport market-goers to El Salvador, with Mariachi Los Romanticos, followed by a trip to Greece with the folks from Rebetiko Ensemble.
Don't miss week three, because we're just warming up, as Melbourne outfit Vardos entertain with gypsy and traditional music learnt from Roma musicians, and Australia's favourite Psych-Latin outfit, the eight-piece San Lazaro "“ who have been getting rave reviews nationally this year following the release of the album La Despedida "“ will bring the Latin heat.
To round out the season, we take you back to simpler times, for some 1950's harmonies from Melbourne's gaggle of vintage singers, Bobby and the Pins, who will perform both on and off stage, as they bring their pinup style look and 1950's hits right into the crowd. The powerful sounds of Italian women's choir, La Dolle Della Luna, and New Orleans-inspired jazz outfit the Sugarfoot Ramblers, form the perfect end to what will no doubt be a perfect market season.
Sit back and relax on a patch of comfy grass, dance the night away with friends, treat your tastebuds, or stock up on some locally-designed treasures, with more than 85 stalls and food vendors on site each night.
From the 30+ food vendors, it's a global feast with street food from Bun (Vietnamese), Cornidios and Perla tacos (Mexican), Flamin' Lamb Spit (Cambodian), Nepal Dining Room, Spanish Gourmet Caterers, Indigenous owned Street Feast, burgers from Beatbox and The Cypriot Kitchen; with numerous vegetarian, vegan and halal options available for both sweet and savoury tastes. There'll be a vast selection of beverages, hot and cold to accompany the tantalising treats, including Brunswick Bitter bars.
Established in 2010 by Queen Victoria Market, the Coburg Night Market has been proudly presented by Moreland City Council since 2014 and will no doubt be THE place to be in the north of Melbourne this summer.
