In Term 4 of 2023, AWESOME artists Kylie Bywaters and Kate Page travelled to Bunbury, on Wardandi Noongar Country to explore making music, craft and paintings with the students of College Row school.
The workshop process focused on self-expression both as a group and individually, where students explored making music through instruments, music apps and singing. Sensory play was encouraged through playdough and natural materials. The students explored visual arts techniques with pattern making using paints, textas and stickers. The young artists created several large-scale collaborative artworks.
Students, teachers and members of the community were invited to a celebration event where the artworks that were created during the week were proudly displayed for all to admire. In addition to the art exhibition, a music station was set up where students could create their own compositions.
Creative Challenge is AWESOME Arts’ core education program that embeds contemporary teaching artists in schools across the state. The residency program aims to build pride in community and explore self-expression through project management and creative learning skills.
