Students explored this year’s Creative Challenge theme in the workshop process by “Gathering” and collaborating on artworks and creative techniques together.
The students explored shadow puppetry, crafting mechanised puppets, scriptwriting, and the creation of scenery and stage management. These skills provided scaffolding for a big performance being developed later in the year that will share the river dreaming story gifted to the students by a local elder. Students also worked together on collaborative screen printing and natural dyeing, sourcing local leaf litter and natural materials to create pieces that were made into calico bags.
“Louise and I worked with the students of Derby SHS to create work centred around the Fitzroy River, a site of local significance and stories. We introduced students to techniques in textile art and shadow puppetry to help them bring their stories to life.” Said artist Chloe Flockart
