Internationally renowned pianist, Konstantin Shamray will conclude the Sydney International Piano Competition"s 40th Anniversary celebration year with recitals in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth this October, with a stunning repertoire of Mozart, Chopin and Tchaikovsky.
Since his unprecedented first prize win and the People"s Choice award in the 2008 Competition, Shamray has continued to mesmerize audiences, performing under distinguished conductors with the Russian National Philharmonic, the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra, Moscow Virtuosi, Orchestre National de Lyon, Prague Philharmonia, Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra and the Sydney Symphony.
Thrilled to be working with the Sydney International Piano Competition once again, Shamray commented, "Winning the Sydney International Piano Competition in 2008 changed my life. Suddenly I felt that the world had opened and I was free to follow my own chosen path. The destiny of an artist is in constant development of one"s mastery and sincere service to the music, and having won a major competition, like Sydney, one certainly has more opportunities to achieve this."
Starting his formal studies at the age of six, Russia"s Shamray holds an extensive list of classical achievements including winning first prize at the 2011 Klavier Olympiade in Bad Kissingen, Germany and now performing yearly at the Kissinger Sommer festival. He was also the first and only winner of the Sydney International Piano Competition to also win the People"s Choice, in addition to six other prizes.
The Competition"s 40th Anniversary has seen some of their most celebrated competitors return to Australia. Currently on tour is the Competition"s 2016 winner, Andrey Gugnin, who has so far, captivated audiences with his intuitive playing and passion.

It has provided a showcase platform for outstanding pianists from all over the world and assisted with the development of their careers as concert artists. Founded by the late Miss Claire Dan AM, OBE and Rex Hobcroft AM, it was inaugurated in July 1977 and has since been held every four years, except in 1988 when it was brought forward to coincide with the Bicentenary of Australia celebrations. The Competition was admitted as a member of the Geneva based World Federation of International Music Competitions in 1978, the first Australian competition to be accepted as a member.
