Daughter Film & Awareness Project Encore Screening

Published by: Sarah Jayne | 5-Jul-2016
Daughter is a short film and awareness project by Nexus Production Group which tackles gendered violence and victim blaming in our society by telling the story of three women who venture out in St Kilda on a Friday night. Their lives entwine and they realise that either one of them could become a victim on this faithful night. Daughter has been making waves in Australia though the media and was recently selected for Cannes Film Festivals Short Film Corner and distributed by ATOM Vic as a teaching recourse, with private school screenings to follow in order to spread the word on the films issues. Now Daughter is back in St Kilda for an encore public screening at @4Dverse St Kilda- don't miss out ! #daughterstkilda #npgroup #stoptheviolence #4Dverse #stkilda #womeninfilm

After a successful March premiere screening at St Kilda Town Hall, Nexus Production Group and 4Dverse Hub are bringing Daughter, the short film and awareness project back to St Kilda for a special encore screening.

Daughter was shot entirely in the City of Port Phillip last September, on St Kilda's streets and follows three women of different lifestyles and age as they venture out on a Friday night. The issues of gender violence and victim blaming are explored and the idea for the story came about after the deaths of two women; Jill Meagher in Brunswick and Tracy Connelly of St Kilda.

Unfortunately due to Tracy's occupation as a sex worker at her time of death her case was given very negative and dehumanising media coverage.
