Dead Letter Club and Wine
A backlash to Twitter, textspeak, emojis, tinder, like buttons and canned responses. "In an age like ours, which is not given to letter-writing, we forget what an important part it used to play in people's lives" - Anatole Broyard
It is now standard to express ourselves through the immediacy of emojis, GIFs, and lols. Communicating in sentences, phone calls and letters is becoming a think of the past.
I'm asking, what might be lost because of this? Dead Letter Club is my answer.
A mashup of creative writing, mystery, parlour games and low commitment pen pals.
"Dead Letter Club was one of the most genuinely creative, powerful and beautiful experiences I've ever taken part in." Gemma Jones, Craft Victoria
In a world oscillating between the immediacy of social media while extolling the benefits of mindfulness we must do better to be creative and social in this world beyond swiping left/right or tweeting 140 characters.
Sending a letter is the next best thing to showing up at someone"s door. Ink from your pen touches the stationary, your fingers touch the paper, and your spit seals the envelope. Thoughts revealed through the flourishes and flow of the pen, the texture and lingering scent on the paper.
These evenings are in dedication to the written word through creative letter writing. This is the creative communication revolution!
"Totally went in not really knowing what the evening would bring but it brought way more than I could even imagine!" Corinne Beinart, Beinart Gallery
Come along, create a persona, and write a letter. Through our special delivery service you will correspond with an unknown person in the room. The correspondence continues throughout the evening with the aid of our own special delivery service.
AND NEVER FEAR! We have hundreds of prompt cards for those awkward moments of writers block.
What better way to write then with the aid of locally made wine. Join us at Melbourne's only people powered urban winery, NOSIY RITUAL for wines and written words.
