The workshop will involve making a small Christmas decoration based on the Norwegian embroidery technique called Handanger. You will be introduced to this technique, develop your own design and then create your own embroidery to take home. Traditional Handanger embroidery uses white thread on white linen, where the pattern rather than colour creates the intrigue. This workshop is suitable for beginners, as well as those experienced in other embroidery techniques.
The traditional style of Handanger work is very geometrical in form and based on several basic shapes such as squares, rectangles, triangles, diamonds, hearts, zig-zags and crosses.
Join Jeanette Stok for an artist tour of the Tamworth Triennial Textiles Exhibition at Coffs Harbour Regional Gallery on Saturday morning from 10.30am - 11.30am. Jeanette will then proceed to "Nesting Needles" at 25 Gale St, Coramba from 12.30pm - 4.30pm where she will introduce the students to the techniques for 'Creating a Christmas decoration with handanger embroidery techniques"
On Sunday, Jeanette will host a full-day workshop with students from 9.30am-4.30pm to help them create their own unique Christmas decoration.
You can either bring your own lunch or purchase it at the cafe or hotel next door to the shop. Nesting Needles has its own kitchen with a fridge, microwave, hot water and tea/coffee facilities. There is a ramp available for wheelchair access.
