Exhibition Opening: Launch of new exhibitions by Janice Gobey, Zamara Lea Robison, Deana Mosca, Michele Donegan, Maddison Anderson, Giulia Disipio and Jacqueline Rossetti.

Alternating Current Art Space is pleased to announce the opening of five new exhibitions by Janice Gobey, Zamara Lea Robison, Deana Mosca, Michele Donegan and (as a collective) Maddison Anderson, Giulia Disipio, and Jacqueline Rossetti on 31 March at 6pm. Beginning in Gallery One, paintings of fur and flesh culminate in Alchemy by Janice Gobey. With a keen interest in people and the human condition, this series follows on from recent investigations into trauma and healing. Here Gobey relays a sensation of touch through the visceral qualities of paint, describing the three dimensional via tactile brush marks that enhance the materiality of her subject. Following this, the soft, tactile sculptures of Zamara Lea Robison manifest in Slump. A series of disfigured forms reminiscent of human body parts, "Slump portrays bodily manifestations of the parasites of our unconscious, torn out and on display like hunting trophies." Devised of tactile fabrics and plastics, their playful nature toy with our discomfort of the abject. Taking place in Gallery Two, Robison"s forms reflect upon how we view our own bodies, the insecurities and fears that plague our perception of self. Meanwhile, Maddison Anderson, Giulia Disipio, and Jacqueline Rossetti present Tree-Fi in Gallery Three. A tree for the new age, the artists playfully subvert the natural purpose of a tree to provide oxygen into a source to access the Internet. As a reference to Western society"s everyday use and dependence, this installation makes note of the fact that much like oxygen, consumption of the internet is now needed to survive. In contrast, Deanna Mosca"s series of portraits offer quiet introspections into the human psyche. Taking place in Gallery Four, Stranded relays a feeling of emptiness and loss, the subjects alone within a blank canvas exposed to the elements. This in turn echoes the fragile nature of painting and sitter alike, reflecting the vulnerable inner workings of the human mind. Concluding with the work of Michele Donegan in the Cupboard, Remnant explores the artist"s connection to place via a series of sculptural forms. Now serving as recollections of a time and space traveled through, small pieces of shell collected while walking have been recreated in plaster. As Donegan states: "My connection with place is a deeply personal one"¦ transforming simple found objects and re-presenting them with a renewed value and presence." Through these forms, Donegan seeks to relay the beauty of the everyday object in a way that "references place, history and memory." All exhibitions will be open from 31 March- 22 April.
