Susie Choi is a contemporary artist who works across ceramics, sculpture and installation. She is guided by ideas that confound and amuse her. Susie was the recipient of the University of Southern Queensland Emerging Artist Prize in April this year.
Choi juxtaposes traditional ceramic forms with media representations of Australian identity. Toying with appearances and materiality, she explores the challenges that surround otherness and intersectionality in Australia.
The sources of inspiration for her work stem mainly from childhood, including toys and playgrounds, the material culture of South Korea, and elements of Australian popular culture.
The exhibition is showing from 15th – 31st August at Mitchell Fine Art in Arthur St, Fortitude Valley Brisbane.
An Exhibition Opening Event will be held on Saturday 17th August from 2pm with Susie Choi in attendance. All events are free.
Mitchell Fine Art is open 6 days a week; Monday to Friday 10am - 5.30pm and Saturday 10am - 5pm, with parking available onsite.
