Darwin Chorale's latest musical feast set to rock CDU
MUSIC Director Michael Loughlin leads the Darwin Chorale in a memorable late afternoon concert featuring music from opera, oratorio and music theatre in Charles Darwin University's newly refurbished theatre at 5pm on Sunday 18 September."The concert program features an appealing mix of music from operas such as Verdi's Nabucco and Offenbach's The Tales of Hoffmann, from oratorios such as Handel's Judas Maccabaeus and music theatre showstoppers from Ragtime and Les Misérables," Mr Loughlin said.
"A really exciting feature of the concert is the inclusion of excerpts from Darwin musician Mark Hulsman's acclaimed musical For the Term of His Natural Life," Mr Loughlin said.
Premiered in Tasmania in 2004 to rave reviews, For the Term of His Natural Life is based on Marcus Clarke's novel of the same name and is a powerful story set in an Australian penal settlement during convict times. Talented Darwin vocalists Fiona Wake and Shalom Kaa (who wowed audiences in the chorale's 2015 Jesus Christ Superstar) will sing the lead romantic roles.
"If you enjoy Les Misérables and Phantom of the Opera, then you will certainly be moved by the music and lyrics of this landmark Australian musical," he said.
