The internationally awarded Gilbert & Sullivan Opera Victoria (GSOV) presents a popular light opera gem, Die Fledermaus (The Bat), in only four performances, 26-28 July, at Darebin Arts Centre.
Absent from Melbourne's thriving music scene for ten years, this lavish production features GSOV's fabulous principal singers, full chorus and orchestra, glamourous period costume, dancers whirling to Johann Strauss' charming waltzes and director Robert Ray's witty English adaptation of the libretto.
Premiering in 1874 Vienna, Die Fledermaus is a whirlwind of revenge, deception, infidelity, cross-dressing, disguise and imprisonment all combined with waltzes! Add a princely party and too much champagne and a hilarious mixture of intrigues and wrongdoings results. However, never fear, everyone lives happily ever after without serious incident.
Come to the party, come and be delighted! For bookings go to www.gsov.org.au.
