sARTorial is a digital art event curated by dLux MediaArts as part of Sydney Fringe 2016. Combining fashion, sound, lighting and cutting edge technology... sARTorial is a glamorous tech-stravaganza!
Fashion designers, sound and light artists, coders, choreographers, programmers, pattern makers, innovators and performers have joined forces to represent the future AND present the future of fashion.. wearable art. Garments that are sensors and a spectacle of the senses...
A one night only event located in Sydney's newest cultural precinct, Annandale, and right next to Wayward Brewery, this pop-up will reinvigorate the once heavily industrial Pyrmont Bridge Road. The evening will be a kaleidoscope of light, sound, movement and colour as burlesque performers and models display their tech-enhanced garments to and through the crowd, offering interactive moments with their wearable art pieces.
Is that a pixel in your pocket or are you just glad to see me?
Erica Gray, internationally renowned and awarded wearable art designer, and ambassador for sARTorial says, "Technology provides the basis for new ways of making, new ways of using material, new forms of creating material and ultimately new fields of expression. Fashion Tech is the true new extent of individuality and personalisation".
sARTorial seeks to introduce the emerging wearables trend to Sydney audiences by providing spectators with a highly charged evening of art and technology. In addition to the 'wandering tech-wearables', guest art collective 'Purple Moustacho' will use striking aesthetics to explore themes of gender, sexuality and consumerism through their surreal artwork.
"dLux is at the forefront of media arts and we're always looking for opportunities to showcase the trend setting capabilities of artists and designers. We see tech-wearables as the next big thing that will become accessible and available to fashion and tech savvy consumers and we want to create a spectacle around it" says dLux curator Giorgia Gakas.
dLux MediaArts is a not for profit organisation creating experiences that generate a deeper understanding of art and technology for braver, more daring communities. dLux is well known for its grassroots approach to socially engaged art and its continued cultivation and contribution to the arts and culture of Australia.
A spectacle of the sensors... sARTorial.
