One of Western Australia"s hottest new outfits on the Independent Arts scene, Whiskey & Boots, present the Melbourne premiere season of their powerful, award-winning production, 'THE ONE'.

Running from the 15th to the 30th of September at the North Melbourne Town Hall Fringe Hub, 'THE ONE' is written and directed by Jeffrey Jay Fowler. A graduate of the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts and The National Institute of Dramatic Art, associate director of the Black Swan State Theatre Company and co-founder of The Last Great Hunt, Fowler is well known for previous award winning works including Fag/Stag, Minnie and Mona Play Dead and Hope is the Saddest.

'THE ONE' invites audiences through the lives of Him and Her, a happy couple who"ve been together for years. They do things couples do; walk together, talk together, meander through IKEA, anal, crosswords on Sunday mornings... and one day he realises she"s the one, so he gets down on one knee and proposes...

"I had long wanted to write a show about marriage.", explains Writer/Director Jeffrey Jay Fowler.

"When the opportunity to work with Georgia and Mark came up I saw it as a great chance to work with a real life couple on a play about coupling. I wanted to research marriage and use its history as a way of exploring why we fall in love and couple up for life, but I also wanted to create a play with heart and a very personal story. Given the zeitgeist, people often suspect the drive of the play will be about marriage equality, but actually I veered away from that. I've been wondering "What set of questions will we start asking once marriage equality has been achieved?" and more specifically - "Why do people get married at all?"

Starring the remarkable talents of Georgia King and Mark Storen, 'THE ONE' takes a romantic cliché and impales it with marriage"s grim history. It"s a musical re-telling of the classic story of boy meets girl, boy proposes to girl, and everything falls apart. Making it's Melbourne debut, 'THE ONE' is a powerful new Australian work not to be missed.
