Legendary multi award-winning singer songwriter John Thorn returns to the Butterfly Club with his acclaimed show "Background Boy". A hit of the 2016 Adelaide Cabaret Festival, Background Boy showcases John"s talents as composer/singer/pianist and raconteur with a delightful collection of original songs in the tradition of Randy Newman, Hoagy Carmichael and Blossom Dearie.
Hilarious comedy numbers, heartfelt ballads, hard swinging jazz tunes and selections from his celebrated Henry Lawson song cycle "Looking For Lawson" are included as well as duets with very special guests, including John"s daughter, Bonnie.
John has won various awards for his work, including the 2006 Melbourne Green Room Award for Mark Trevorrow"s show, "It"s About Time" as the musical director, and the 2011 Best Cabaret at Melbourne Fringe Tommy Bradson"s show "Pirate Rhapsody Mermaid Requiem" as composer.
John"s theatrical credits include "Melbourne University Revue", "Billy Elliot", "Saturday Night Fever", "Bob Down/Mark Trevvow", "Licence to Thrill (The Music of James Bond)", "Two for the road (The Music of Mancini)", and "He Drank Too Many Cigarettes".
