From Friday 14th to Sunday 16th October, the nation's mightiest wordsmiths will join together for live literary mayhem with the 4th annual Story Fest presented by Word Travels.
Over three jam-packed days, the program will include performances, panel discussions, wordshops, screenings, a youth program and the highly anticipated finals of Sydney, New South Wales and Australian Poetry Slams.
As Australia's largest performing writer's festival, ticket holders can look forward to a smorgasbord of literary delight including spoken word, poetry, stories, lyrics, monologues and much more throughout the Festival's three locations - Sydney Opera House, Sydney Dance Lounge (Walsh Bay) and The Festival Hub in The Rocks.
Joining the program this year is special guest Tanya Evanson, a Montreal-based poet, performer, producer and educator. Tanya will present Writing Under the Influence, a workshop combining poetry with whirling dervish dancing.
Program highlights that will kick off the Festival on Friday 14th October include the Sydney Poetry Slam featuring 15 of the best poets from across the city and The Word: Rise of the Slam Poets, a screening of a documentary series featuring champions of the Australian Poetry Slam.
On Saturday 15th October, two poets from ten NSW regions will battle it out on stage in the NSW Slam Final. Pin the Tail on the Station, will see three artists embark on a wild journey with the audience through the city to collect artifacts and interpret them into poetry.
Rounding out the bumper program on Sunday 16th October, will be the Australian Poetry Slam National Final where two poets from each state and territory will take to Sydney Opera House stage for a chance at a prize pool worth over $15,000.
Creative Director and Founder of Story Fest, Miles Merrill, said "Story Fest is an opportunity to take the pulse of a nation through its stories, poems and lyrics. Over 1000 writers across the country perform in heats and finals every year. To hear and see the top 16 at the APS National Final is astounding."
