Kambri at ANU: the epicentre for creative thinkers and festival hub for DESIGN Canberra 2019!
Now in its sixth year, DESIGN Canberra is a creative enterprise platform and festival that's a celebration of all things design. In 2019, Kambri at ANU is proud to be a main festival hub of DESIGN Canberra, hosting many thought-provoking and inspiring events in the precinct.
At the inaugural national design writing conference, Object Subject (2017), keynote speaker and NY Times design critic Alice Rawsthorn called on the design sector to take seriously their responsibilities - social, environmental and ethical. This clarion call, teamed with multiple requests from national and international design writers to repeat the event, is a catalyst for the second national design writing conference in Canberra.
Tim Ross (Australian comedian, radio host and design enthusiast) will moderate a public talk with one of the most internationally significant Australian architects, John Andrews.
A lecture series based around the work and careers of Canberra designers will have an ANU focus, with all speakers being either ANU alumni or faculty.
The launch of Karen McCartney's book 'Iconic Modern Australian Houses: 1950-2000'.
Two embargoed exhibitions during the month of November for guests to enjoy. More information to follow.
There will also be public building tours and an exciting special edition of Kambri's weekly Friday favourite, The Precinct Market, featuring local design entrepreneurs, ANU student stalls and makers.
Both the ANU and broader Canberra community will be welcomed into Kambri to take part in the varied activations, which will showcase the stunning indoor and outdoor spaces created during the precinct's recent $260 million redevelopment, including the Cultural Centre, outdoor Amphitheatre, University Avenue, and aMBUSH Gallery.
DESIGN Canberra will further Kambri's vision of bringing a diverse program of great artists, thinkers, and makers together in an inclusive cultural space for local and international artists.
