Meeting Place begins with a relaxed welcome program at Belconnen Arts Centre on Day 1, followed by a plenary session at the National Gallery of Australia on Day 2. Day 3 offers a choice of creative and professional development workshops and thought-provoking discussions at national and local arts and cultural venues across Canberra.
At the culmination of the program is a final celebration of access and inclusion in the arts, with Arts Access Australia partnering with the Australia Council for the Arts to present the first National Arts & Disability Awards event on 3 December, the International Day of People with Disability.
Meeting Place is the signature event of Arts Access Australia (AAA), the peak national body advocating for the rights of people with disability in the arts. The event brings together local, national and international arts and cultural leaders, arts workers and artists, and key stakeholders in the sector such as government members to discuss, debate and celebrate the latest in access and inclusion in the arts.
In 2019, AAA is partnering with local organisation Belconnen Arts Centre to host the event. The event is supported by the Australian Government, the ACT Government, the National Gallery of Australia, Creative Partnerships Australia, and other supporting partners.
Become a Professional Member of Arts Access Australia to receive a 42% discount off the full price - in recognition that artists with disability earn less than artists without disability in Australia (Making Art Work 2017).
Registration to Meeting Place is free for low income or unwaged people, and carers/companions/support-workers.
