Take a voyage with us as we explore pathways to better mental health.
Playing as a part of Mental Health Week, 'Voyager' is the fifth and final Q&A event in the 2016 series presented by Melbourne Playback Theatre Company. With four previous SELL OUT shows already this year during International Women's Day, National Reconciliation Week, Refugee Week and National Science Week, 'Voyager' takes a closer look at a personal and social journey that all of us tread.
Running on the 8th of October at La Mama Courthouse, this final event offers an exclusive forum that intersects personal experience, mental health, performance, and robust conversation.
Creative Director of 'Voyager' and long time company member Rachael Dyson-McGregor on the 2016 Q&A events, "Melbourne Playback has had a hugely successful season of panel and playback shows this year. We've sold out each of these events and are looking to end the year with an inspiring show about young people's Mental Health, with Voyager. As a company we wanted to broaden our horizons, engage with new audiences and integrate the stories of the inspiring writers, advocates and researchers who do such valuable work in our community. A panel discussion and playback show has a great alchemy of merging expert experience with creativity and storytelling, and we couldn't be more thankful to our audiences and supporters who have come on this journey with us."
Join our diverse panel of young experts for Voyager - Philly (Hip Hop/Rap Artist and Winner of the 2015 National Indigenous Music Awards New Talent of the Year Award), Aref Ramazani (Photographer, Filmmaker, and Refugee Advocate) and Steph Darling (REACH Facilitator and Trainer) as they share their insights into finding calmer waters, building a support crew, and setting sail with confidence.
Audience members are invited to participate in this Q&A, which will then be followed by an interactive performance with Melbourne Playback Theatre's ensemble of professional actors, musicians, and MCs. Joining the discussion and speaking to the Melbourne Playback facilitator is completely voluntary and audience members also have the option to simply sit back, and watch. These events have proven to be playful, poignant, and insightful.
Melbourne Playback Theatre Company have been captivating audiences for over 30 years with their unique form of improvised theatre; transforming shared, real-life events into powerful and engaging stories on the stage.
