Melbourne's Miles and Simone pay homage to 1960s Country and Westernvariety shows in 'Never Leave' video
Melbourne-based musical duo Miles and Simone pay homage to country and western variety shows from 1960s America, in the new video clip for heartbreaker single 'Never Leave', premiered by Tone Deaf. @milesandsimone #milesandsimone
Directed by Tom Salisbury, and modelled on a 1960s American country and western variety show, 'Never Leave' was shot at a secret Television studio location in Melbourne. The clip features Miles and Simone, performing as themselves, with a flock of hens, and to give the piece a strong Australian feel, John Jacobs stars as the show's host in his pink suit and old cowboy hat, pitching his character somewhere between Barry Mackenzie and a character from 'Wake in Fright.'
Miles says, "It was important from the beginning to subvert the form of the old television show in some way, however, we were away on tour and having trouble organising something special to occur. Our producer, Lily Youngsmith took charge and sourced thirty chickens from the lovely Brett and Emily. They showed up on the day and, with no other way but to jump in, we set about filming, with Brett, Emily and Lillian gently encouraging each chicken into the shot at Director Tom Salisbury's command." The funniest part of the shoot was Simone continually dry retching as she insisted on wiping up the chicken poop during the epic, post chicken party clean up!"
** "No feathered actors or actresses were harmed" during the filming 'Never Leave' and are safely back with Brett and Emily basking in the sun on their farm.
Miles and Simone have performed their heartbreaker alt-country folk ballads at some of Australia's most loved festivals including the Melbourne International Arts Festival, Brisbane World Theatre Festival, Darwin Festival, Adelaide Cabaret Festival, Falls Festival, The Famous Spiegeltent and most recently sold out shows at FOPA.
Miles and Simone are set to delight audiences with their immaculate harmonies when they launch 'Never Leave' in Melbourne and Sydney during October.
