Merrigong Theatre Company presents TRENT DALTON’S LOVE STORIES
Merrigong Theatre Company is thrilled to present the NSW Premiere of smash-hit stage adaptation of Trent Dalton’s best-selling book Love Stories at the Illawarra Performing Arts Centre from 27 February to 8 March 2025.

After a sold-out Brisbane Festival debut season in 2024, playing to more than 20,000 ecstatic audience members, Love Stories will play in Wollongong for a strictly limited two-week season. Sydney dates are yet to be announced, and it is anticipated that the show’s calibre will attract a high number of visitors to the region.

In the lead up to the event, Merrigong Theatre Company has organised for best-selling author Trent Dalton and playwright Tim McGarry, to visit Wollongong for a free event. This exclusive conversation with ABC Illawarra’s Melinda James, will share behind the scenes insights with fans, Thu 23 Jan. The event quickly sold out and Merrigong is excited that Trent will be greeted by a full house to hear about the making of the show.

Brought to life by the creative team behind the smash-hit page-to-stage adaptation of Boy Swallows Universe with acclaimed playwright Tim McGarry at the helm, Dalton’s vignettes are lovingly adapted into a whirlwind production, merging candid performances from a stellar cast and cine-theatre that will make audiences fall in love all over again.

Inspired by a personal moment of profound love and generosity, bestselling author Trent Dalton spent two months in 2021 gathering stories on his sky-blue 1960s Olivetti typewriter, on a prominent street corner in Brisbane’s CBD. Speaking to Australians from all walks of life, he asked them one simple thing: ‘Can you please tell me a love story?’.

On this exciting production, Merrigong Theatre Company’s Artistic Director and CEO Simon Hinton said, “Trent Dalton's Love Stories feels like the theatre we all need at the moment. I don't know if I've ever seen an audience more joyful than I did when I saw Love Stories up in Brisbane. It really is an unmissable show for anyone who knows and love Trent's extraordinary books, and anyone who has felt love, heartbreak, loss or anything in between. In other words, this show really is for everyone!”

Adapted for the stage by Tim McGarry
