Monash Caulfield lights up with a free film and music event, Under The Wire featuring Alice Ivy, Saatsuma, Ocdantar and DJ MonaGene

The 2016 Melbourne Festival program is coming to the city's southeast for the first time, with a vibrant and captivating mix of music, film, and performance to be staged at Monash University's Caulfield campus over three nights from Thursday 13 to Saturday 15 October. @MelbFestival @MonashUni
Presented in association with Monash University and the Melbourne Festival, Under the Wire "“ Projections and Sounds is a free public event of moving images and music, curated by James Hewison, Head of Film Programs at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI).

The pulsating program of film and live music will feature local up and comers Alice Ivy, Saatsuma, OCDANTAR and DJ MonaGene, as well as new work by the likes of Amiel Courtin-Wilson, Australia's most prolific and surprising documentary filmmaker; Rick Charnoski, a master of the Super 8mm; and the poet of cinematic decay, Bill Morrison.

Commencing the music program on Thursday the 13th, is electro-soul project Alice Ivy, who over the last 12 months has released a trio of singles, supported Banoffee and Remi and completed a UK and European tour, recently won the triple j Unearthed Listen Out Festival, which saw her perform at the Melbourne event, and has been earned herself a nomination for the 2016 Age Music Victoria Awards in the Best Emerging Act category.

Joining Alice Ivy is unique Melbourne based electronic project Saatsuma lead by Memphis Kelly and Cesar Rodrigues. Driven by elements of hip hop, house, and neo-soul, drawing inspiration from the likes of Little Dragon, FKA Twigs and Flying Lotus, the band has recently supported Yeo on his national tour, performed at this year's BIGSOUND showcase and have also been announced on the Melbourne Music Week and Paradise Music Festival line-ups. "¨

On Friday the 14th the music program includes DJ MonaGene with a live performance from OCDANTAR, the solo project of Joshua Delaney the frontman and producer in ambient electronic group Rat & Co. OCDANTAR will bring to life his genre-bending production and kaleidoscopic tracks, gesturing towards acts like Portishead, Four Tet, and Burial, emphasizing the clear, euphonic hues of his techno and trip-hop influences through his live sets.

Under The Wire, will also feature sound curation and composition by the Australian Art Orchestra's Peter Knight, sound master James Savage, and a series of live improvisations by students from the Sir Zelman Cowen School of Music.

"Sometimes it's what doesn't hit cinema screens that need to find oxygen elsewhere," saidMr Hewison of Under The Wire.

The popular eatery, MJR TOM will be serving their signature food, as well as a selection of boutique wines and cocktails in the Under The Wire pop-up, from 5pm "“ 10pm daily.
