Nature's Table | Owen Thompson
The artwork for Nature's Table is comprised of nature studies and landscapes. My collected small treasures are painted in a manner reminiscent of the work of naturalists who made journal recordings of their natural history discoveries, often on voyages to foreign parts of the world at the turn of the last century. Miniature worlds, full of diverse colours, patterns and structures. Owen Thompson

Blue Mountains based artist Owen Thompson continues on from his last solo show with a journey looking at natural studies and landscapes.
The series has grown and expanded in scope to cover a broader range of subject matter, encompassing local native plants and Blue Mountains Vistas as well as costal scenes and shells.
Nature's Table reminds Owen of a time when his students were encouraged to bring in any found objects that was unusual, curious or interesting and to place them on the " nature table " for the class to look at and discuss. Owen retains this fascination and enjoys the often-surprising small wonders that nature offers up to observe.
Owen's collected small treasures are painted in a manner reminiscent of the work of naturalists who made journal recordings of their natural history discoveries, often on voyages to foreign parts of the world at the turn of the last century, however Owen's work differs in that his primary interest in painting the objects more aesthetic rather than scientific.
Other studies are grouped into arrangements and presented in triptychs that emphasize the more abstract relationships of the objects to each other; the rhythms and spaces created between the objects and the movement of the eye from one to the other.
The landscapes in the show reflect Owen's involvement with nature on a broader scale; a larger tableau. Many of them are of the Upper Blue Mountains.
The exhibition runs from Saturday 24th March until Sunday 8th April. Meet the artist | Saturday 24th March, 2 -4 pm
