NAVA announces 60% increase in the value of The Freedman Foundation Travelling Scholarship for Emerging Artists
The National Association for the Visual Arts (NAVA) today announces that The Freedman Foundation Travelling Scholarship for Emerging Artists will award four artists with $8,000 this year - and applications are now open.
We are delighted to be continuing our support for emerging visual artists by way of travel scholarships," said Kathy and Laurence Freedman.
"In recognition of rising costs of travel and accommodation, from 2019 there will be an increase in the award from $5,000 to $8,000 for each artist. This will ensure recipients can continue to embark on ambitious and imaginative projects - often in far flung places" they continued.
Celebrating an increase of $12,000 to this annual program, Esther Anatolitis, Executive Director of NAVA, said: "The Freedmans have long recognised the value of international travel as professional development for artists who are early in their careers. With thanks to Kathy and Laurence Freedman's generous vision, we've been thrilled to be able to support so many emerging artists together since 2000. This increase to The Freedman Foundation Travelling Scholarship will embolden artists' ambition for the kinds of professional development they can experience."
Since the inception of The Freedman Foundation Travelling Scholarship for Emerging Artists in 2000, this generous program has contributed more than $450,000 to 89 young artists to expand and enrich their studio practice abroad.
The Freedman Foundation is a private philanthropic organisation that donates funding to the visual arts, music, medicine and science. Through NAVA, four early career Australian artists are supported by the Freedman Foundation each year to travel overseas to develop their careers internationally through study, residency or mentorship.
Applications close Sunday 31 March 2019.
