El maestro Wichie Torres que nació Ponce, el 29 de Marzo de 1952, es reconocido por su gran trayectoria en la plástica del paÃs siendo un referente en lo que concerniente a costumbres, tradiciones y el paisaje dentro de la pintura puertorriqueña. Considerado un artista polifacético de una extensa trayectoria profesional con exposiciones individuales y colectivas realizadas internacionalmente. Además ha recibido reconocimientos, distinciones y premios de instituciones del paÃs y el extranjero, sus obras se encuentran en museos y colecciones importantes de Puerto Rico como lo son el Museo de Ponce, el Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico, el Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de San Juan, el Museo de Arte, AntropologÃa e Historia de la Universidad de Puerto Rico y el Instituto de Cultura Puertorriqueña y la Colección de Arte de la Cooperativa de Seguros Múltiples de Puerto Rico entre otras.
El jurado de premiación estuvo compuesto por la Sra. Judith Nieves Lacomba, antropóloga, curadora e historiadora del arte, directora de su propia firma de gestorÃa cultural JNLArte, también fungió durante 11 años como administradora y curadora de GalerÃas Prinardi of the Américas. Sus escritos han aparecido en publicaciones como Revista Arte Latinoamericano, Revista Arte al DÃa, Revista ARTes y Revista del Instituto de Cultura Puertorriqueña; el Sr. Félix Rivera, empresario, promotor de las artes y propietario de la GalerÃa Trinitaria, fundada en el 2003 en Ponce, considerada una de los principales instituciones que promueve las artes plásticas en el área sur del paÃs y el Sr. Enrique Hernández, empresario, coleccionista, promotor y mecenas del arte, actualmente es el auspiciador de la GalerÃa Betances, principal espacio alternativo del pueblo de Mayagüez.
Para este Primer Salón Bienal de la Asociación de Artistas Plásticos de Puerto Rico participan 79 artistas socios del organismo.
