To kick-off 2019 Process delves head-first into an examination of the role and definition of an architectural manifesto, and how declarations of ideals can shape architectural practice. SPEAKERS: PETER BICKLE, ARM JILLIAN WALLISS, UNIVERSITY OF MELBOURNE FRANK BURRIDGE, THE ARCHITECTURE LOBBY The manifesto offers itself up as a tool to catalyse ideas, radicalise modes of operation, expand and distil current dissatisfaction, reflect successes and translate ideas into action. Architectural culture is rich with agitators and provocateurs who thrive on challenging design theory and practice. Through manifestos architects such as Le Corbusier, Rem Koolhaas, Peter Corrigan and ARM describe guiding principles which provide a point of departure to interrogate design values through practice. Written manifestos launch emerging practices and become agents of change for the next generation of design thinkers. However, would architects benefit from a unifying manifesto, or is it by definition an individual pursuit? This event seeks to interrogate the manifesto as a viable route for expressing potential for change in architecture. Join Process February 4, 2019
