Inspired by the raw sounds of New York in the 1970s and the passion of salsa luminaries Eddie Palmieri, Ray Barreto and Hector Lavoe, Quarter Street revisit an era where the music of the streets resonated with the voice of the people.
Bringing together sounds from the streets of Havana, Puerto Rico and 1970s New York, Quarter Street blend Latin and world music with funk and soul to create infectious rhythms and captivating beats.
Formed in early 2011, Quarter Street have made their mark on the Melbourne music scene and won international recognition and awards. The band is made up of Luis Poblete on vocals and percussion, Cristian Saavedra on percussion, Sergio Botero and vocals and percussion, Leo Salvo on vocals, percussion, Sebastian Orellana on percussion, Andrew James on piano, Cesar "Fito" Saavedra on bass, Ben Gillespie on trombone, Jimmy Bowman on trombone and Lazaro Numa on trumpet and trombone.
