This unique sensory experience will showcase the richness of Korean culture and musical heritage through narrative singing pansori and folksong, percussion of janggu, transverse flute daegeum, and plucked zither geomungo.
With its origins dating back almost 1400 years to the Silla dynasty, the National Gugak Centre is the headquarters of traditional performing arts in Korea, preserving and promoting five millennia of artistic expression.
Performed by four of the centre’s leading musicians, the performance will feature both traditional and contemporary music from an array of genres including folk, narrative, and improvisatory ensemble music. The seven-item program includes Sarangga - a famous love song for voice and drums, Bird – a new composition for solo bamboo flute exploring the universal desire for freedom in human life, and Jindo Arirang - a southwestern regional folk song.
Mesmerising and meditative, Viva Korea is the perfect opportunity for those seeking a deep understanding of Korean culture and artistic passion, and is not to be missed.
