School holidays made fun with AWESOME ARTS!
For the first time ever in 2021 AWESOME Arts visited Courthouse Gallery Junction Co. for a two-week Creative Challenge with a twist.
AWESOME Artists Iona McAuley and Caitlin Jane Hampson packed their bags and travelled to Port Hedland on the traditional lands of the Kariyarra, Ngarla and Njamal people for a two-week Creative Challenge with a twist. Taking a different approach to Creative Challenge AWESOME Arts worked in collaboration with Courthouse Gallery Junction Co. to run a holiday drop-in style program that allowed a huge variety of individuals to participate and explore their creativity throughout the two weeks. This residency was proudly sponsored by BHP.
Throughout the two weeks, Iona and Caitlin ran a series of workshops designed to enrich participants and explore new creative skills. Children worked with clay, jewellery, textiles, recycled materials and more!
Participants also explored puppetry theatre-making. They created paper puppets, devised names, backstories and voices for their characters and performed interactive scenes with one another.
In one final creative explosion, AWESOME artists and attending guests celebrated the residency experience by combining their favourite games with their favourite foods to make "Fruit salad, pass the parcel, Bingo!" which was a huge success and allowed all involved to laugh and enjoy healthy fruits and veggies while reflecting on their creations.
