SOLAR PLATE PRINTMAKING featured at SYDNEY CONTEMPORARY ART FAIR! #trudyrice #lisasewards
Print Council of Australia curates PAPER CONTEMPORARY and Booth P07 at this year's SYDNEY CONTEMPORARY International Art Fair will showcase the solar plate etchings of Melbourne Printmakers Trudy Rice and Lisa Sewards. Both artists have diversified their printmaking techniques from the traditional acid etchings process to using non-toxic solar plates. Their practice illustrates traditional intaglio and although the works created by both artists are parallel in their creation, the results in this medium are distinctly diverse and multifaceted.

Sewards employs the parachute object, a recurrent motif in all her bodies of work. Featured at the art fair are her parachutes, war pigeons and her imaginary parajelly subject created for her recent Thousand kisses deep Melbourne exhibition that explored an underwater WW2 resting place and its phenomenon of maritime parachutes.
Rice's work on show takes one on a contemplative journey into nature where her botanical perspective brings to life native flora and fauna. Layers of colour and imagery bring an awareness and appreciation to the beautiful place we live in. Her main concern is our environment and its protection and preservation.
The secrets of solar plate processes and a demonstration of this medium will be shared by Trudy Rice on Thursday September 13th at 12:30pm, in the PAPER CONTEMPORARY Bay 19 section.
