Seymour resident company and producers of the sell-out smash independent musicals THE DROWSY CHAPERONE and MAN OF LA MANCHA, Squabbalogic Independent Music Theatre are proud to present the Australian premiere of THE ORIGINAL GREASE, from 6th April to 7th May, 2016.
Raw, raunchy and risqué, THE ORIGINAL GREASE is the classic musical as it was meant to be - and unlike any version you've seen before.
Kicking off the Seymour Centre's 2016 Reginald Season, Squabbalogic's authentic and wild staging takes us deep into the lives of the working class teenagers from Chicago's Northwest Side in 1959, where hormones, heartache and hairstyles are off the hook. Including never-before-heard songs and scenes cut prior to its original Broadway debut, THE ORIGINAL GREASE is a rebellious, rude and rage-filled tale of teen love, sex, friendship and rock 'n' roll.
Directed by Squabbalogic artistic director Jay James-Moody (Man of La Mancha), with musical direction by Benjamin Kiehne (Hair) and choreography by Simone Sallé (A New Brain), THE ORIGINAL GREASE will feature a cast of sensational young artists, including Emily Hart (Thoroughly Modern Millie) as Sandy, Brendan Xavier (Witches of Eastwick) as Danny, Coral Mercer-Jones (Little Orphan TrAshley) as Rizzo and Temujin Tera (Bring It On The Musical) as Kenickie.
"The Original Grease is something I've been trying to bring to Australia for a number of years," said Jay James-Moody. "The rich themes and characters that have been slowly sanitised and broadened over the years are at the fore of this production. It's a fascinating insight into the historical evolution of a musical and a rollercoaster of teen emotion that any audience member can relate to."
So wipe off that angel face, say goodbye to Sandra Dee, and get ready to get down and dirty at Squabbalogic's production of THE ORIGINAL GREASE.
