Artsite Galleries is excited to announce that our stockroom is now open to the public on weekends, 11am-5pm. Home to a variety of Australian artists such as Graham Marchant, Kerry Johns and David Asher Brook, audiences can engage in an intimate stockroom viewing experience as they get up close and personal with a range of curated work.
This months featured stockroom artist is Kerry Johns. Johns grew up in coastal Queensland, Australia which significantly impacts her interest in capturing the Australian landscape. Working in acrylic on canvas, Johns works en plein air, capturing the forests and rugged wilderness in which she paints. Johns' works are evocative of the Australian bush, abstracted through blocks of opaque colour. My painting draws on the imagery of the landscape in which I am living at the time and to which I am emotionally attached. Periods of plein air drawing in the particular landscape result in an understanding and an empathy with the character of place. (Johns, 2018) Since her first solo exhibition in 1979 Johns has exhibited consistently in numerous solo and group shows in commercial galleries. Her work can now be viewed in our stockroom.
