The Northern Folk reveal beautiful new single Cold' and announce upcoming Melbourne launch date + summer festival appearances
Hailing from Albury, Melbourne based collective The Northern Folk have been incrementally building their charismatic and varied sound since banding together and gracing the local touring circuit in 2012. Since then, the ever-evolving outfit have released two records of lyric-led, horn-saturated ebbs and troughs that showcase the breadth of the group's songwriting and ultimately act as signposts for their impressive and rapid growth as a band.

Now, the typically folk/pop/stomp/rock slanted outfit are sidestepping into new territory with their latest offering Cold'. Out today, the single will be officially launched with a celebration at The Northcote Social Club on Sunday 18 November, plus a run of National festivals over the summer including Woodford Folk Festival, Blue Mountains Music Festival and The Hills Are Alive.
Full to the brim with multilayered vocals and tight horn sections courtesy of the outfit's ten seasoned band members, Cold' is one of The Northern Folk's most soulful slices to date. Blossoming from melodic calm to chaotic crescendos of clashing cymbals, sing-a-long choruses and playful horns, the powerful track is a grand, impressive and utterly refined taste of The Northern Folk's forthcoming third album. Engineered by Julian McKenzie at Newmarket Studios and mixed by Callum Barter at Remo Music, Los Angeles, Cold' is a warm hug and a pick-me-up for anyone doubting themselves or their relationships.
After moving to Melbourne at the beginning of 2017, the band quickly settled in, winning St Kilda Festival's New Music Stage Competition, which will see them play the main stage next year. Sold-out headline gigs at the Northcote Social Club and The Evelyn, a month-long residency at the Gasometer, and shows supporting The East Pointers (CAN) have solidified The Northern Folk as front-liners of the Melbourne folk scene. Upbeat and vivacious with a "strength of performance second to none" (Beat Magazine), their live shows deftly move from foot-stomping grooves and wild sax solos to impassioned vocal pleas and pristine harmonies.
Off the back of a stand-out performance at the recent A Hitch To The Sticks Festival join The Northern Folk as they launch Cold' in their new home of Melbourne on Sunday 18 November at The Northcote Social Club with support from Maja and Riley Catherall.
