Now in it's third year The Queensland Figurative is a non-acquisitive competition open to all Queensland residents and calls for artists to create work that incorporates the human figure as an integral part of the composition. A great success in 2014 and 2016 this major competition offers $11,500 in prizes.
Followed by The Harold and Anges Richardson Drawing Prize which opens on September 25th. Harold Richardson was the first gallery director at the RQAS and a long standing president who, along with wife Agnes, helped the RQAS to grow and develop. This prize is awarded in their memory and made possible by an endowment of funds from their estate. The Harold and Agnes Richardson Drawing Prize is an open competition calling for artists to demonstrate their drawing skills, offering $2000 in prizes to the artists.
And finally our Young Artist Award opens on October 16th, which was added to the RQAS calendar in our 2016 biennial is expanding this year to include two sections 14 -17 and 18 - 30 year olds. Promoting engagement with schools and art colleges this open competition offers an exhibition platform and more than $2000 in prizes for Queensland's emerging artists.
