After the huge success of the premiere season during the 2015 Poppy Seed Festival, 15 Minutes from Anywhere's blockbuster hit returns as The Yellow Wave crashes back over Melbourne's Butterfly Club.
Nominated for a 2015 Green Room Award for Best Ensemble, Melbourne audiences are being given the chance to revisit this epic story, or join the crush and experience it for the first time.
Based on Kenneth Mackay's 400-page Australian classic of 19th century literature, The Yellow Wave is a saga of love, heroism, and sacrifice. A prescient tale of war, passion and boat arrivals, this much lauded show features a huge cast of characters, exciting set pieces"¦ and a vast array of questionable accents. It's an invasion like no other.
Director Beng Oh adds, "The Yellow Wave is fast, funny, very silly, and quite sweet. It's a mash-up between Baz Luhrmann's Australia and Gone With the Wind, performed by just two very busy (and quite frantic) actors with one (nearly) unflappable narrator. The show tackles the big issues confronting contemporary Australia: boat invasion and brown people. Audiences should expect to have their fears and prejudices confirmed as they contemplate the spectre of imminent invasion, and hopefully have a laugh along the way."
15 Minutes from Anywhere is an artistic collaboration between director Beng Oh and writer Jane Miller. They create new Australian works, as well as explore the lesser known and interesting parts of the repertoire.
