TMO kick off their 2016 MET Concert Season with an all string program which includes the masterful String Serenades from both Dvorak and Tchaikovsky. Lead by Chief Conductor Sarah-Grace Williams, these two well-known works will be complemented by Australian composer Daniel Rojas' new revision of his fresh and vivacious Little Serenade for Strings in an evening of pure string beauty.
Rojas' exciting work will invoke childhood memories as it opens the evening with plenty of energy to get toes tapping. As the composer has said about the performance of his own works, "my music must often be played with a degree of uncontrolled wildness." Closing out the first half of the evening's performance will be Anton Dvorak's String Serenade. Both wistful and elegant, the wonderful work contains an abundance of popular tunes to evoke feelings of comfort and familiarity.
Tchaikovsky's String Serenade was completed directly after his composition of the 1812 Overture in 1880. Whilst audiences of all ages are familiar with the immense fame that the Overture brought him, he was much more proud of his work with the String Serenade which starts with a solemn opening theme working through to an exciting and exuberant melodious finish.
"Starting the year with a powerful string program is something we've wanted to do for some time. It sets the tone of intimacy while bringing out those joyous and passionate emotions which we love to inspire in our audiences. This is a beautiful way for TMO to launch into what is going to be a huge year for the orchestra. We're sure audiences will love this vibrant and sumptuous program," says Sarah-Grace Williams, Chief Conductor and Artistic Director with TMO.
