Brisbane artist David Hayes presents his fourth solo exhibition at Mitchell Fine Art in Brisbane from 14th May 2024. In his new exhibition Hayes explores the resilience of the human spirit in response to trauma with the paintings drawing heavily on objects as metaphors. ‘The story is mine, but always I seek to find common ground with the viewer’ says Hayes. An opening event for the exhibition will be on the 18th of May at Mitchell Fine Art Gallery, 2pm to 4pm. Entry is free.
Darwin-based artist Franck Gohier returns to Mitchell Fine Art in Brisbane with his new exhibition ‘Love and other Catastrophes’. Delving into the cliche narratives and imagery of romance in the comics of yesteryear, Gohier provokes thought on whether society has truly progressed or merely shifted its facade. The exhibition is showing from 14th May to 1st June, with an opening to held on Saturday 18th May from 2 - 4pm. An accessible live music event created by people living with disability is set to return to the Fleurieu Peninsula in November with organisers seeking expressions of interest from musicians of all kinds to expand its popular Rock the Coast concert. Salta’s new Build-to-Rent (BTR) community, Fitzroy & Co., will soon feature one of the largest pieces of public art in the City of Yarra – a 353 square metre mural by renowned Melbourne-based First Nations artist Lisa Waup. The mural, which will be painted on two sides of the 14-storey building, is a striking monochromatic piece which features Waup’s distinctive linework. Titled ‘Convergence’, the artwork celebrates First Nations storytelling while capturing the spirit and character of Fitzroy North, highlighting the building’s connection with its residents, the local community and history of the area. Waup, who has exhibited in countless national and international exhibitions, says the mural will be visible to neighbouring suburbs and will celebrate the relationships between people, Country and community. “In my work, circles represent family and community, while lines explore paths of connection between people, place and time,” Ms Waup said.
